Patrick ‘Sammy’ Steer passed away on 30 April 2026. Pat had been diagnosed with throat cancer and chose to use the services of Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) with his family present.
A member of 14th intake of the Army Apprentices School, Pat was a trombone player who served in many bands including RMC Band, 3RAR Band, Townsville Area Band, RAAC Band and 2MD Band.
A talented man with a great sense of humour, Pat was well known and respected in Army Bands. After leaving the Army Pat worked as an entertainer. Pat was a strong supporter of the AABCA and was a past AABCA President from 2011-2013.
There will be no funeral for Patrick with only a small gathering on Sunday, 3 May to celebrate his life.
